Tristan and Iseult

The legend of Tristan and Iseult predates Arthurian legend, but was incorporated into it – Tristan becoming one of the Knights of the Round Table. It originated in Brittany, but Tristan is usually described as a Cornish prince (the nephew of Cornwall's King Mark) and Iseult as an Irish princess. Tristan and Iseult are two lovers, fated to share a forbidden but undying love.

The name of Iseult was Germanicised to Isolde by Wagner.
